5 Parks In The East To Visit Besides East Coast Park
Following the recent oil spill that Singapore experienced last month, clean-up operations at East Coast Park Areas B and E have been completed, and the beachfronts in both areas will be reopened to the public.
However, while non-primary contact water sports such as kayaking can resume in both areas, swimming and primary contact water sports such as wakeboarding and stand-up paddling are not allowed until the water quality has returned to normal.
In addition, the other beachfronts in East Coast Park remain closed while clean-up operations are ongoing.
But don't fret: While East Coast Park may not be fully accessible right now, it's not the only green space in the East. Here are 5 parks on this side of the island which are worth checking out.
1. Pasir Ris Town Park
A popular hangout spot for nearby residents, Pasir Ris Town Park has plenty of amenities alongside its wide open spaces. One of its biggest draws is the fishing ponds, the largest of which offers a myriad of options, including old-fashioned Kelong Fishing. There are also smaller ponds for catching crabs and prawns, and both amateurs and experienced anglers are welcome to give it a try.
2. Bedok Reservoir Park
As its name might suggest, Bedok Reservoir Park is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Dragon boating, kayaking and wakeboarding are just a few of the many activities this park has to offer. If you want a real adventure, try Forest Adventure, whose aerial obstacle courses are sure to give you an adrenaline rush.
3. Sun Plaza Park
This often-overlooked park is usually seen as a mere connector between Bedok Reservoir Park and Pasir Ris Park. But Sun Plaza Park has its own merits: From a Sense Discovery Garden to an amphitheatre which often hosts concerts and performances, this park is a hidden gem for group outings. The highlight has to be its Woodball Course, which has twelve fairways built to comply with international standards and has played host to both local and international woodball tournaments.
4. Tampines Eco Green
If you’re a nature lover, Tampines Eco Green offers a tranquil sanctuary full of flora and fauna. With various natural habitats like open grasslands, freshwater ponds and a secondary forest, this park is a lush savannah-like home to several different species of birds, butterflies and other animals. Take a stroll along one of its walking trails, and be sure to bring your binoculars to do some birdwatching.
5. Pasir Ris Park
With an elaborate playground featuring a myriad of play equipment such as rope pyramids and flying fox installations, Pasir Ris Park is perfect for family outings. Want something a bit more unusual? Check out Gallop Stable, a pony riding school situated within the park that’s open to everyone, regardless of age or experience.
