2025 is shaping up to be an absolutely legendary year for gaming. It’s as though all the top game publishers decided to hold out for 2025, dropping their most epic titles from February onwards. Our advice? Plan your leave days and start saving up (or drop loved ones some not-so-subtle hints for your next birthday gift).
Here are the games we can’t wait to get our hands on in the new year.
Monster Hunter Wilds
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Release date: 28 Feb 2025
Top of our buy list is the multiplayer hunt ‘n slash adventure Monster Hunter Wilds. Like previous titles, you can go solo or team up in groups of four to hunt menacing monsters. Gather materials to craft new weapons and armour, ready to take on even bigger creatures. The challenge lies in mastering the timing to evade hits and deal damage to these powerful creatures.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Release date: TBA 2025
Based on the Marvel comic series “Flags of Our Fathers”, two popular superheroes team up to stop the rise of terrorist organisation Hydra. In addition to playing as Steve Rogers or the Black Panther, you will also get to play as Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Nanali, the leader of the Wakandan Spy Network in this action adventure game.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
PlayStation 5
Release date: TBA 2025
The sequel to the hit Kojima Productions title sees Norman Reedus return as Sam Porter Bridges, joined by new characters played by Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna. If you’ve never played the original, drop what you’re doing and play it now (then come back to this article). Death Stranding is set in an alternate USA following a catastrophic event which caused destructive creatures to roam our planet. As Sam, you are a courier delivering supplies to isolated colonies (think futuristic Grab delivery rider but with way more danger on your travels).
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBA 2025
After the amazing Pokemon Legends: Arceus, we’re finally getting another Legends title – this one is set in the same world as Pokémon X and Y. Not much is known except that the game is set during an urban redevelopment project at Lumiose City, and fan-favourite Mega Evolutions will make a comeback.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Nintendo Switch
Release date: TBA 2025
Galactic bounty hunter Samus Aran is back for a new adventure that may involve Sylux, another character who was introduced in 2006’s Metroid Prime Hunters. Blast your foes in this first-person shooter set in a forest world. The trailer showed Samus scanning enemies and the return of the iconic morph ball ability to explore tight spaces.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Release date: TBA 2025
When it comes to video game remakes, this one should top your 2025 wish list. As Naked Snake, you’ll be traversing through industrial and tropical settings in full camo (ah, fond memories of BMT field camp), while avoiding traps, enemies, and other surveillance methods that can expose your cover. You can find firearms and other gadgets that will help you accomplish your mission: rescue a Russian rocket scientist and destroy a Soviet nuclear superweapon.
Grand Theft Auto VI
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Release date: Q3 or Q4 2025
It’s been a long 12 years since the last GTA was released – and after teases in 2022, we’ll be ending 2025 with arguably the game of the year. The story follows Bonnie and Clyde-inspired protagonists Lucia and her male partner as they rise through the criminal underworld of Leonia (based on Florida). The game includes Vice City, the main setting of the 2002 GTA.
