School Holiday Fun: These Indoor Playgrounds Are Perfect For Rainy Weather

The December school holidays are almost here, just in time for the rainy season to hit.

While you could prepare a list of indoor activities to entertain the kids, they might get a little stir-crazy if they're stuck at home for days on end. Thank goodness for indoor playgrounds, where children can be children while staying safe from the wet weather.

1. Curiosity Cove

What makes it unique: The newly opened Curiosity Cove at Mandai Wildlife East is perfect for kids aged 3 to 12 years old, with four interactive zones that encourage your children to climb, explore and discover nature through play.

Why your kids will love it: Your kids can slither through a 27-metre long net maze based on the belly of a horned viper, climb a giant spiderweb net, play with an interactive digital "Watering Hole" floor installation, and much more.

2. SuperPark Singapore

What makes it unique: At most playgrounds, whether indoors or outdoors, adults are barred from joining in the fun. But not at SuperPark Singapore which was founded by a father who was bored of sitting on the sidelines while his kid played.

Why your kids will love it: You and your child can climb obstacle walls, bounce on trampolines, slide down zip wires, slides and even race cars (on a real track!) together.

3. Buds by Shangri-La

What makes it unique: This playground is located inside a hotel; specifically, Shangri-La Hotel at Orchard Road.

Why your kids will love it: Those under four (with parental supervision) can indulge in a soft-play zone with a ball pit and slide among some of the features. Meanwhile, older kids can check out the Explorer Zone where special installations let them learn and play at the same time.

If the weather allows for it, there’s even an outdoor playground with a giant pirate ship and a water play zone.

4. Pororo Park

What makes it unique: Themed around around "Pororo", the beloved Korean animated series, this 11,000 square foot playground is one of Singapore's largest theme parks.

Why your kids will love it: This is an ideal place to park your child at since it has so many attractions, like the Shark Ball Pool (try slam-dunking one of the balls into the shark’s mouth and watch it slide out from its tummy), the Hinoki Pit (dig into the specially imported aromatic wood bits from South Korea) and the popular Pororo Express Train.

If your kid still has loads of energy, head for the bouncy castle, the jungle gym and Petty's Supermarket – the last is where budding supermarket shoppers can roleplay as customers. Very useful the next time you need their help to pick up buys at NTUC.

5. Kidz Amaze

What makes it unique: Housed in different SAFRA clubhouses islandwide, every Kidz Amaze concept varies from location to location.

Why your kids will love it: Splash @ Kidz Amaze is an indoor water playground, said to be the first of its kind in Singapore, while Kidz Amaze @ SAFRA Jurong has an illuminated ball maze and a suspended maze (why do you think it’s called Amaze?).

6. Amazonia Singapore

What makes it unique: This indoor playground is almost entirely glow in the dark, with an "Ice World" theme that houses Singapore's tallest wave slide, standing at a whopping 8-metres high.

Why your kids will love it: Start them young and have the kids perfect their swing in the 3D Glow Golf nine-hole mini course here. Then, check out the Spaceball room, where you can shoot balls from one of eight cannons and have your scores tabulated on the electronic scoreboards.

If all this is getting a little too dark for you, the Jungle Play Gym is lit in more ways than one – it’s a six-storey gym with suspension bridges, tunnels and an 8m-high slide.

8. Airzone

What makes it unique: Think of this as an elevated, six-storey-high playground suspended on a web of nets. Sounds scary? The people behind Airzone say that each layer of nets can actually hold the weight of two buses and were originally made for gymnastics.

Why your kids will love it: You can lie around, hammock-style, dive into the floating ball pit, explore a 3D maze, slide down a big net bridge and wave at the other mall shoppers.

In addition, Airzone has recently introduced new inclusive play features to appeal and cater to persons with disabilities (PWDs), such as laser tag and a silent disco, which can be enjoyed from the sidelines without needing to step onto the nets.
